St. John Hook Bracelet

The St John Hook Bracelet is an iconic St. John tradition, which originally started as the Caribbean hook bracelet from St. Croix in the 1960s. The bracelet is crafted in sterling silver or 14kt gold wire with a clasp fastening it in the shape of the letter J. At Jewel House St. John, ours are locally handmade in St. Thomas. 

Legend has it that fishermen’s wives would wear them for good luck to bring their husbands back from sea safely. The hook was to be worn pointing out when they were out at sea, and turned inward when they arrived safely at shore.
Today’s tradition has evolved to wear the hook bracelet pointed in towards your heart if you are taken, and hook pointing outwards if you are single.
