The Four C's of Diamond Quality (Information sourced from GIA.com)

The Four C's: Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat weight. The industry standard for grading diamond quality, which can help you make a decision on which diamond is for you. We have included quality charts directly from the GIA website for your information.

GIA Color Scale: The universally accepted color scale begins with D as the top colorless grade, ranging up to Z (GIA.com)

GIA Clarity Scale: As diamonds are formed under great pressure, unique clarity characteristics are created. When the small crystals trapped in the diamonds grow, the pressure causes inclusions or what we would call birthmarks, sometimes only visible under a microscope. Clarity grade is based on the size, visibility, location, and number of inclusions on a diamond. (GIA.com)

Diamond Cut Grades:

The cut of a diamond refers to how it interacts with the light and its overall proportions to the facets on that unique diamond. Shapes, like oval, round, and marquise, do not. Diamond cut grades only apply to round brilliant cut diamonds, because they are the only cut that has standardized facets (GIA.com) All other shapes, such as oval, marquise, pear, and princess, are considered fancy shapes. The proportions of every cut of diamond are endless. Every proportion combination impacts the way that diamond interacts with the light, and ultimately, how attractive that diamond appears. (GIA.com)

Diamond Carat Weight:

A metric diamond carat is equal to 200 milligrams, with each diamond measured into the hundredths place. Price differences can be significant for natural stones, depending on their desirability. The value of a diamond reflects all four C's, not only the carat weight (GIA.com)
